Foil Aero Top is the most advanced garment we have ever developed for foiling.

Born from work conducted with Olympic athletes Tita–Banti, it uses aerodynamic fabrics tested in wind tunnels to reduce turbulence and remain stable on the body when speeds become very high.

In foil classes, when the boat is flying and speeds exceed 40 knots, the body is as much an integral part of the aerodynamic system as the hull and sails. In this context, a traditional lycra is no longer enough.

The objective was clear: to create a garment that remains stable even when wet, that does not flap in the wind, and that helps to reduce turbulence around the body. Not just a protective layer, but an active performance component.

The heart of the project is an aerodynamic fabric with surface micro-channels. This structure, tested in a wind tunnel, acts on the airflow by reducing turbulence and decreasing drag, based on principles already used in disciplines where every hundredth of a second counts, such as Olympic track cycling.

Transposing this technology to foil sailing means responding to the evolution of boats now capable of sailing stably at speeds unthinkable just a few years ago. Foil Aero Top does not use a single material, but a combination of fabrics with different weights and structures, all with a high proportion of elastomer. This allows for compression, stability, and freedom of movement exactly where needed.

In the commercial version, the level of compression has been calibrated to make the garment usable beyond just the competitive context, without losing effectiveness: even when wet, the fabric does not stretch out and continues to work on the body.

The construction is ergonomic and performance-oriented, with a slim fit and flat triple-needle seams to reduce friction and improve comfort. An integrated silicone print on the chest serves a concrete function: it creates grip for the harness and stabilizes the garment during use.

On the front, a specific silicone spot also allows, if necessary, for a controlled cutout for the harness hook to pass through without tearing the fabric.

Anti-UV UPF 35+ protection completes a product that currently has no direct equivalent on the market.

Foil Aero Top is not a high-volume product, but a concentration of innovation, designed for those who sail at the limit and are looking for the highest technological level available in foil sailing.

THERMOREGULATION: Thermoregulation is the insulating capacity of a garment, i.e., the property of maintaining a constant body temperature in high or low external temperature conditions. The high level of thermoregulation limits the number of garments that need to be worn, improving freedom of movement.

FAQ:

Who is this product designed for?

The Foil Aero Top is designed for sailors operating on high-speed foil boats, where the body is strongly exposed to airflow. It is ideal for Olympic foil classes, wingfoiling, and kitefoiling, and for those seeking a garment capable of actively reducing aerodynamic drag while ensuring sun protection.

What conditions is this item designed for?

The top uses an aerodynamic fabric with a ribbed structure, tested in a wind tunnel and designed to reduce air turbulence. In the commercial version, the level of compression has been calibrated to ensure high performance while maintaining good comfort during use.

What fabric is this item made of?

Unlike a traditional lycra, the Foil Aero Top does not lose its structure when wet and does not flap in the wind. It remains stable on the body even at high speeds, reducing friction and fatigue while sailing. The silicone print creates grip for the harness and stabilizes the garment during use. It also allows, if necessary, for a controlled cutout at the navel via a specific silicone circle, for the harness hook to pass through without compromising the fabric—a solution developed for sailors who often wear their harness under the top.

What are the advantages of this item?

The Foil Aero Top features an aerodynamic fabric, ergonomic construction, flat seams for comfort, silicone printing for harness grip, anti-UV protection, and a performance-oriented slim fit. It can be worn like a lycra, directly against the skin or over other layers, for example over a life jacket. It is extremely elastic and designed to adapt to different usage configurations.
